What began in the mid-1800’s as a neighborhood to those working in the shipping trades, Otterbein is a neighborhood that almost never was. Surviving the great fire of 1904, a gradual decline in the 1950’s and 1960’s, then being taken over by the government for the future site of interstate 95, Otterbein is now one of Baltimore’s affluent neighborhoods.
Otterbein gets its Names from Phillip Otterbein, a German-born clergyman who was the founder of the United Brethren in Christ, a group that is a forerunner of today’s United Methodist Church. Today, the historic residential community is a suburban oasis located in downtown Baltimore, located a few blocks west of the Inner Harbor.
Homes for sale in Otterbein offers a mix of old and new homes that are convenient to Baltimore’s central business district, public (Light Rail) and highway transportation (I95), to two stadiums – M&T Bank Stadium – Home to the Baltimore Ravens, and Oriole Park at Camden Yards, and to the arts and entertainment venues of adjacent neighborhoods – The National Aquarium in Baltimore, Fort McHenry, Baltimore Maritime Museum, American Visionary Art Museum, and the Maryland Science Center.
With its 7 parks and the Otterbein Swim Club you are sure to see your neighbors taking a relaxing stroll, walking their dog, playing with their children, enjoying good book on a park bench, or taking a refreshing dip in the pool on a hot summer day! Oh, and if you were ever frustrated with finding a parking space when you come home from work, errands, or dinner – you don’t have to worry about that in Otterbein. This neighborhood is a parking permit required neighborhood. So don’t even think about parking here without #8 resident or visitor permit, unless you would like to contribute to Baltimore City’s Parking Authority – Trust me – I have already donated!.
